CLEPA welcomes recognition of key components in Net-Zero Industry Act and Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform regulation

CLEPA welcomes the Parliament’s adoption of the Net-Zero Industry Act (NZIA) and the Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (STEP) regulation, which may both enter into force from July this year.

While the Commission’s initial proposal only recognised battery and fuel cells, the final text also recognises hydrogen storage systems, electric propulsion, and other hydrogen technologies as net-zero technologies. The NZIA will significantly reduce permitting procedures for strategic net-zero facilities and the STEP could effectively mobilise public funding for NZIA technologies. The European Commission is mandated to table secondary legislation to further define the list of net zero technologies and components within nine months of entry into force.

CLEPA has begun a supply chain analysis to ensure that the delegated act adequately addresses relevant technologies and components.
